Frequently Asked Questions

The current beta of ClipDrop offers a free tier that contains:

  • Unlimited "Text" detection on mobile and desktop
  • Unlimited "Photo" capture on mobile
  • Free Cloud Gallery (with a limit of 30 days retention)

Each account also comes with 10 free Clips. We may provide re-fills for these free Clips in the future.

As per our Terms and Conditions, a Full Access subscription can be used by 1 person on up to 2 mobiles and 2 desktops.

This status means that your phone and computer are properly setup and synchronized but they can't communicate over your local network.

There are a couple reasons why that could be the case:

  • You are using a managed local network with restrictions over communication between connected devices: such as strict corporate networks, hotel wifi, public café wifi..etc
  • You have a firewall software that could be blocking the communication between the 2 devices. Try temporarily disabling your Firewall to see if it fixes the issue. If that's the case, please re-activate it and contact us at
  • When the Windows Firewall prompt appeared, you didn't allow communication with ClipDrop on private and/or public networks. In this case, the good new is it's not too late ! Open the "Control Panel". Choose "System and Security" and within "Windows Defender Firewall", click on "Allow an app through Windows Firewall".

    In the "Allowed app" window, click on "Change settings". Look for "ClipDrop.exe" be sure that all of the three checkboxes on this line are checked. (Actually you might need only one of the Private/Public one depending on your WiFi network type, but allowing both is the easiest).

If you believe none of these restrictions apply to you and are still stuck in the 'Desktop Unreachable' status, please contact our support.

Feel free to join a screenshot of your mobile while the menu is open (by tapping the 3 dots at the top right corner). There is some debug information on the screen that can help us understand what may be going

ClipDrop requires an account to synchronize your devices over the internet, to enable saving to your private Cloud Gallery, and to properly manage our server resources.

When you choose to sign in with a third-party provider such as Apple, Facebook or Google, we never access any other information than your name and email.

Future versions of ClipDrop may allow using some parts of the application without having to sign in.

Running our advanced AI algorithms requires significant server costs that we can't cover without fundings. Your subscription help us develop ClipDrop and keep it Ads-free 🙌

We've decided early on that we don't want to bring advertisements or trackers in the app to keep your data safe and private.

Clip Data

When you take a picture with ClipDrop in the Clip mode, the photo is sent to our servers to be processed, and we immediately return the result.

In order to keep our service safe and efficient, photos of free users may be stored anonymously. If that's the case, we make sure that the photo is anonymised (we store no connection to the initial user, and we remove any face or text). These photos are strictly kept to audit our service by our engineers and will never be shared with third parties.

Photos of Full Access users are never stored unless specifically requested.

Drop Data

When you Drop, the photo of your screen and the screenshot taken by the desktop are never sent to our servers. The photo is sent over your local network directly to your computer, and the screenshot stays there.

AVAST / AVG / McAfee are antivirus that uses a set a of rules to determine if an application can harm your computer.

Unfortunately, These antiviruses miscategorizes our auto-update mecanism as a virus and blocks the installation of ClipDrop. We've made a request to them to fix the issue as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you can verify the safety of the binary yourself by running it on VirusTotal

Windows SmartScreen is a trust based mecanism that filters apps not commonly used in order to prevent unrecognized applications from harming your PC.

Because we launched the Windows version of ClipDrop just recently, it still hasn't gained enough reputation to be added to the SmartScreen registry.

Here is how to bypass the SmartScreen to run ClipDrop:

  • Please make sure that the binary you downloaded has been signed by us, Init ML
  • When the SmartScreen appears, click on More Info and then Run Anyway

We do not offer education pricing at the moment.

Getting Started

1. How does the Cloud Gallery Works?

Your Cloud Gallery allows you to save your captures while you are the go and synchronize them automatically across all your devices.

Your Cloud Gallery is private and only accessible to you.

2. How to save a capture to your Cloud Gallery?

On Mobile:

  • After a Clip, simply tap the Upload to Cloud Gallery icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  • Depending on your connection, your capture will take some time to save.
  • Once the upload is complete, the icon will update to show that the capture has been successfully synchronized.

On Desktop:

  • After a Clip, simply clic the Upload to Cloud Gallery icon in the top right corner of the preview window.
  • Depending on your connection, your capture will take some time to save.
  • Once the upload is complete, the icon will update to show that the capture has been synchronized.

3. How to access captures from your Cloud Gallery?

On Mobile:

  • Tap the 3 dots icon in the top right corner of the main screen
  • Tap on "Cloud Gallery"
  • You will see a list of all the items available in your Cloud Gallery.

On Desktop:

  • Open ClipDrop
  • In the left menu, select the first menu icon "Cloud Gallery"
  • You will see a list of all the items available in your Cloud Gallery.

1. Install the Desktop Application:

  • Visit on your device (macOS or Windows)
  • Sign in using one of the available provider.

2. Install the Mobile App:

  • Visit on your device (Android or iOS)
  • Signin using the same login provider that you used to login on Desktop.
  • Follow the instructions to authorize the app to make screenshots


On Desktop, ClipDrop provides a screen capture functionality that allows you to Clip anything displayed on your screen.

To use this functionality simply click on the ClipDrop icon from the taskbar and select "Clip" or "Text".

You can then draw a region of interest on your screen and ClipDrop will extract what it finds in this region.


  1. Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Photoshop (>= 22.0.0)
  2. Install the ClipDrop plugin for Adobe Photoshop
  3. Make sure that ClipDrop is running on your desktop
  4. Make sure that the plugin is connected to the desktop application (Plugins > ClipDrop > About)
  5. Add some elements to your document to allow Drop to be more precise

Requirements and Compatibility

ClipDrop supports Android, iOS, macOS and Windows (beta).

The basic drag & drop functionality from the viewer window should work with most applications (Chrome, Safari, Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite products, Microsoft Powerpoint, Keynote...etc).


For advanced integrations, we currently only support Adobe Photoshop 2021 (>= v22.0.0 ) through the ClipDrop Plugin for Photoshop that allows you to drop directly on your Photoshop document.

We plan to create more plugins and support more integrations in the future.

ClipDrop currently requires:

  1. A recent mobile phone (iOS v12.04+ or Android v9+) with a good internet connection
  2. A recent desktop computer (macOS v10.14+ or Windows v10+)

The Drop functionality requires that both the mobile phone and desktop computer are connected to the same local network. The firewall rules settings of that local network must allow both devices to communicate directly.

Account Management

You can delete your account and all associated information from the desktop application:

  • On the main window, click on your profile picture on the top left corner.
  • Click "Delete" and Confirm.
